Cardinal Craft!!

one of my favorite crafts at the moment is my northern birds from my home state of Connecticut!1
I LOVE to draw, so I made up these patterns by looking out my window at my red cardinals!! I enjoy drawing from nature for my crafts.
I just draw the bird pattern on cardboard, I made two sizes this time.
Then I use red felt and cut it out using the pattern as my guide.
After cutting it out, I draw in a few details in black permanet marker to help it look more realistic. Sometimes I add a little paint color and glitter.
Then I hand sew the two peices together and stuff it with stuffing material from a craft store before sewing it completely closed.
I use heavy thread to make the hanging loop, and voila!! a cardinal comes to life.
They're fun and easy for me to make and they are inexpensive, one square of felt makes two larger birds.
They make great christmas ornaments and gifts. Enjoy!!!!

Barbie's Special Day!!!!

We decided to celebrate BARBIE'S BIRTHDAY by invitng some of her friends over for a Beach party Bubble Bath Bash!!
March 9, 1959 Barbie dolls appeared in stores in the U.S. I vividly remember my dad buying me my  first Barbie!! It was love at first sight!!! Thank goodness I still have some of my old friends, zebra bathing suit and all!!!
The happy times I spent with my sister having many great adventures, including  learning about fashion styles and  matching color and design, are some of my favorite memories. My red flare velvet outfit ( coat, hat bag, wow!!) remains one of my favorite outfits ever!!!!
So, I was only to happy to share in throwing the current Barbies a Bash to honor their birthday!!!

Thanks for the memories!!!!!Let the good times roll!!!!!

Coloring Princesses

One of our favorite things to do, is coloring in drawings of Princesses that I like to draw for my granddaughters. It keeps them occupied for quite a while and we talk about fashion and color and design. Good times!!!

Winter Tea Party

Here is my daughter and my grandson ,  having a tea party while a nor'easter blows outside.I highly reccomernd this as a good way to while away a snowy afternoon. Make sure you eat plenty of cakes and cookies!!

This winter we got pounded with a lot of snow and ice!!! We'll be glad to see spring in March!!!!

My house in the autumn

I couldn't resisit putting in a picture of my house in the fall, my favorite season in Ct. Next I'll show you how it looks in February!!! It's been a long, snowy winter.

Colorful yarn octupi

Here is a fun project for children 6years old and up. All you need is a tennis ball, a skein of yearn and elastics to tie off the braids. Wrap the yarn around a peice  of cardboard about 20inches in length.
Then remove the yarn from the cardboard and insert the tennis ball. Tie off the tennis ball and seperate the yarn into 8 "legs". Braid the legs and tie off the braid ends with elastics. Then add bows and a face to finish. My granddaughters loved making these, they can be any color and give the kids a real sense of accomplishment, plus, they are fun and funny to make!!!

Holiday chickadee

my felt holiday chickadee, just like the black-capped birds that come to my window!
Here are a few more ormaments I created this year. My grandson's favorite tale is "The Three Little Pigs', so I created  some fun felt ornaments for his tree. Also I used the birds from my window as "live models" for my cardinals and blue jays!!Great fun!!!

Nutcracker Holiday Ornaments

Here are  some of the holiday ornaments I made this year using felt. I like to work with felt and I even paint it  and have fun embellishing it with jewels and trim.
My granddaughter, Isabella and I have a special Nutcracker  bond and I truly enjoyed making her these special ornaments.
